Stuffed nose, natural remedies

Stuffed nose, natural remedies: some really effective tricks and some grandma's remedies to fight nasal congestion in a natural way.

Nasal congestion (stuffy nose or obstruction of the nasal airways) is one of the most common problems of the respiratory system; generally it can be traced back to colds, flu, structural abnormalities or allergic rhinitis.

Stuffed Nose Natural Remedies

Against nasal congestion it is also possible to intervene in a natural way; just resort to some do-it-yourself remedies or remedies related to alternative medicine.

Spicy food

Spicy foods can help clear a stuffy nose in seconds. Unfortunately, the effect does not last long but in the meantime you will have benefited from their therapeutic properties.
It is enough to add ingredients such as onion, garlic, chilli, ginger, black pepper but also long pepper, a spice much appreciated by Ayurveda medicine, to meals. These foods must be finely chopped and eaten raw for seasoning dishes.

Suffumigi with oils

The fumigations are the classic grandmother's remedies that are always very useful and effective to free the stuffy nose.
Water vapor and heat help loosen mucus and open the upper airways.
Fill a basin with hot water and keep your head down, covered with a towel so as not to disperse the vapors, for about 5/10 minutes. You will need to dissolve a few drops, 2 or at most 3, of eucalyptol, thyme, lavender, peppermint or tea tree oil in the water. They are easy to find in herbal medicine shops and pharmacies: they have an expectorant, disinfectant and soothing action.

Eucalyptus essential oil is the one most used to combat a blocked nose; sometimes it is an ingredient in herbal nasal sprays. If you have a small terrace or a balcony you can perhaps consider the possibility of growing eucalyptus at home. All useful information for growing eucalyptus in the garden and exploiting its beneficial properties can be found in the article "Eucalyptus, cultivation of the plant".

Suffumigi with coarse salt

Against a stuffy nose you can prepare fumigations with coarse salt; just bring a liter of water to a boil in a pot and turn off the heat. For preparation, just pour 50 grams of coarse salt into the water and mix. Breathe the vapors released for about ten minutes, covering your head with a towel.

Hot drinks

Drinking warm liquids can help clear the nose. Remedies include hot tea, broth, and chicken soup. It is not recommended to drink beverages that contain caffeine; they can make your nasal congestion worse.

Exercise

A really effective natural decongestant is doing physical activity. Just walking is enough.

Massage the sinuses

The paranasal sinuses are the spaces located next to the nasal septum; a large amount of mucus accumulates here. Try practicing a circular massage on the area; the mucus will dissolve so as to favor a less annoying distribution.
Use your index fingers and middle fingers, placing your fingertips on the paranasal sinuses, below the eye socket, and move them forming circles. For 20 or 3 seconds, take care of the areas closest to the nose, then those below the eyes.
Finally, place your thumbs on your cheeks and make circular movements outwards.

Mint

Since ancient times, mint has been highly appreciated for its therapeutic virtues; in alternative medicine it is used to relieve any respiratory problem, thanks to the acetic acid and ascorbic acid it contains.
The power of these substances is really effective; just use menthol inhalers or use the classic mint ointment for the respiratory tract to put an end to your problems in a few minutes.

USEFUL RECOMMENDATION: a blocked nose that does not go through should always be reported to the doctor, for a correct diagnosis of the origin of the problem and to approach it in the appropriate manner.
